Distribustion of Empowerment item in Nyanya, Gwandara
On the 21st May, 2018 NCFRMI led by the Federal Commissioner, Sadiya Umar Farouq was in Nyanya Gwandara, Nasarawa State for the Symbolic Distribution of Empowerment materials (starter packs) for the benefit of 27 Refugees. Prior to the distribution, the PoCs were trained in Catering, Bread Pastry Making, Cosmetology & Beauty Therapy, Interior & Outdoor Decoration, Computer Operations, Fashion & Garment Design, Tie & Dye and so on. Sadiya Umar Farouq stated that “the Empowerment Programme is designed to preserve the skills and productive assets that displaced persons carry with them. “It will enable them to lead active and productive lives, thereby weaving strong social, economic and cultural ties with their host communities” she said. Items distributed include laptops and computer accessories, grinding machines, deep freezers, dryers, cylinder and gas cookers, bakery accessories and sewing machines among others. The intervention was coordinated by the Head of Protection Unit, Mrs. Ladidi Kolo. Guest and other participants were received with a cultural dance display performed by Students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
Mr. Hanson Ghandi, a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) who attended the flag off, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the livelihood approach in addressing the plight of Refugees as he conveyed hope that the migrants would soon return to their countries of origin or be fully integrated into the society.
