NCFRMI expresses concern over death and sufferings of migrants caught up in boats mishap off the coast of Djibouti
Two boats carrying at least 130 migrants capsized off the coast of Djibouti leading to the death of more than 40 persons with dozens reported missing. The sad event, which occurred on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, once again, shows the risks taken by migrants and consequences of such decisions.
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally-Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) extends its condolence to those who lost their loved ones in the mishap and its solidarity to survivors, who are passing through a traumatizing moment that requires urgent and systematic support of humanitarian actors. It encourages Nigerians and other citizens contemplating migrating in irregular, dangerous and undignified manner to learn from the mistakes of the affected migrants.
