Protection and Shelter

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) is dedicated to providing comprehensive Protection and Shelter services to vulnerable populations in Nigeria, including refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Protection 

  • Legal Assistance:
    The Commission offers support in obtaining necessary documentation, legal representation, and advocacy to ensure the rights of displaced individuals are upheld.

  • Child Protection:
    Specialized programs safeguard vulnerable children, particularly unaccompanied minors, ensuring their safety and well-being.

  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention:
    The Commission implements initiatives aimed at preventing and responding to GBV, including the establishment of safe spaces and support services for survivors.

  • Human Rights Advocacy:
    NCFRMI actively works to ensure that the human rights of all displaced persons are respected and protected, in line with national and international standards.

Shelter 

  • Emergency Shelters:
    In times of crisis, the Commission provides temporary shelters equipped with essential infrastructure and support services to accommodate displaced individuals and families.

  • Durable Housing Solutions:
    The Commission is committed to facilitating long-term housing solutions, transitioning individuals from temporary shelters to permanent homes.

  • Shelter Upgrades:
    Recognizing the need for improved living conditions, the Commission undertakes projects to upgrade existing shelters, ensuring they meet safety and health standards.
