NCFRMI Relocates 40 Families to Newly Constructed Resettlement City in Keffi
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has taken a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by displaced individuals by relocating 40 families to a newly constructed resettlement city in Keffi.
This marks the first phase of an ongoing initiative aimed at transitioning internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees from temporary camps to a more permanent and secure environment. The 40 families, comprising approximately 300 individuals, have now moved into the purpose-built community designed to provide safety, stability, and opportunities for rebuilding their lives with dignity.
A Commitment to Sustainable Resettlement
The Honourable Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI, Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, personally oversaw the relocation process and emphasized the importance of community cohesion. He encouraged the resettled families to abide by local regulations and protect the facilities provided to support their integration and well-being.
The resettlement city is equipped with essential infrastructure to foster a thriving and inclusive community. These include:
- Access roads for improved mobility
- Clean water systems to ensure adequate sanitation
- A school to support children’s education
- A market to promote economic activities
- Worship centers for religious observance
- Other necessary amenities to enhance the quality of life for the residents
In addition to providing permanent shelter, the NCFRMI also distributed food items, cash grants, and non-food essentials to help the families meet their immediate needs as they settle into their new homes.
Strengthening Community Integration
During a courtesy visit to the Emir of Keffi, Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to resettling and integrating more displaced families. He highlighted that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to ensure that all persons of concern have equal access to opportunities, services, and protection.
The Emir of Keffi expressed his appreciation for the Commission’s proactive efforts and pledged the full support of traditional and community leaders in ensuring the peaceful coexistence and successful integration of the resettled families into the broader community.
A Step Towards a Brighter Future
This relocation initiative represents a critical milestone in NCFRMI’s ongoing mission to provide durable solutions for displaced persons in Nigeria. By offering stable housing, essential services, and economic opportunities, the Commission is empowering families to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
As the resettlement program continues, NCFRMI remains committed to ensuring that more displaced individuals gain access to safe and sustainable living conditions, fostering long-term stability and development.
